LIFE COMMITMENT VERSES

THE COST – C.R.O.S.S.

Confess and forsake

I John 1:8-10 -"If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.  If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives."

Rely

John 15:5 - "I am the vine; you are the branches.  If a man remains in me and I him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing."

Proverbs 3:5,6 - "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."

II Corinthians 12:7-10 - "To keep me from being conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me.  Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me.  But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.  Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.  That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties.  For when I am weak, then I am strong."

II Corinthians 1:8-10 - "We do not want you to be uninformed brothers, about the hardships we suffered in the province of Asia.  We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired even of life.  Indeed, in our hearts we felt the sentence of death.  But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead.  He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us.  On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us."

James 1:2-4 - "Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.  Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."

Romans 5:3-5 -"Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.  And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us."

Hebrews 12:11 - "No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful.  Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it."

Obey

John 8:31,32 - "To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, 'If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.  Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set your free."

Matthew 6:24 - "No one can serve two masters.  Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other.  You cannot serve both God and Money."

Luke 6:46 - "Why do you call me, "Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say?"

Seek God

Matthew 6:33 -"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."

Proverbs 2:1-6 - "My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding, and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God."

Philippians 3:10 - "I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death."

I Peter 2:2 - "like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation,"

Sacrificially serve

Matthew 20:26-28 - "Not so with you.  Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be you slave---just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for man."

John 13:34,35 - "A new command I give you: Love one another.  As I have loved you, so you must love one another.  By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."

Luke 17:7-10 - "“Suppose one of you had a servant plowing or looking after the sheep. Would he say to the servant when he comes in from the field, ‘Come along now and sit down to eat’? Would he not rather say, ‘Prepare my supper, get yourself ready and wait on me while I eat and drink; after that you may eat and drink’? Would he thank the servant because he did what he was told to do? So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.’”"

Philippians 2:3,4 - "Do nothing out of selfishness ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.  Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others."

John 13:12-16 - "When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place.  'Do you understand what I have done for you?' he asked them.  'You call me 'Teacher' and 'Lord' and rightly so, for that is what I am.  Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed you feet you also should wash one another's feet.  I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.  I tell you the truth, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him.  Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them."

Matthew 26:38 - "Then he said to them, 'My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death.  Stay her and keep watch with me.'"

John 15:18-20 - "If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first.  If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own.  As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world.  That is why the world hates you.  Remember the words I spoke to you:  'No servant is greater than his master.'  If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also."

THE REASON

The mercies of God

I Peter 1:18,19 - "For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from you forefathers."

The strength of God

Colossians 1:28,29 - "We proclaim him, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone perfect in Christ.  To this end I labor, struggling with all his energy, which so powerfully works in me."

Philippians 4:13 - "I Can do everything through him who gives me strength."

The help of God

Matthew 6:33 - "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these thing will be give to you as well.

Matthew 11:28-30 -"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."

Matthew 28:20 - "…And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

Hebrew 13:5,6 - "…God has said, 'Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.'  So I say with confidence, 'the Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.  What can man do to me?'"

THE DECISION

Romans 6:13 - "Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness."

Romans 6:19 - "…Just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer them in slavery to righteousness leading to holiness."

Romans 8:3,4 - "For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering.  And so he condemned sin in sinful man to be a sin offering.  And so he condemned sin in sinful man, in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit.'

I John 2:15-17 - "Do not love the world or anything in the world.  If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.  For everything in the world---the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does---comes not from the Father but from the world.  The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.'

II Corinthians 3:18 - "And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit."
