That we not be worried:

Philippians 4:6,7 - "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

I Peter 5:7 - "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you."

Psalm 55:22 - "Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall."

That our needs be met:

Matthew 6:11 - "Give us today our daily bread."

Hebrews 4:16 -"Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need."

That we be delivered from the evil one:

Matthew 6:13 - "And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one."

That we know Him better:

Ephesians 1:17 - "I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better."

That we understand the riches of god's inheritance:

Ephesians 1:18-23 - "I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe.  That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms….."

That we be strengthened and filled with God's Spirit:

Ephesians 3:16-19 - "I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith.  And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge---that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God."

That we know God's will:

Colossians 1:9,10 -"For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding.  And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God."

That we grow in love and righteousness:

I Thessalonians 3:12, 13 - "May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else, just as ours does for you.  May he strengthen your hearts so that you will be blameless and holy in the presence of our God and Father when our Lord Jesus comes with all his holy ones."

Philippians 1:9-11 - "And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ---to the glory and praise of God."

That there be peace and order in our world:

I Timothy 2:1,2 - "I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercessions be made for everyone---for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness."

II Chronicles 7:14 - "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land."

That God be glorified through us:

II Thessalonians 1:11,12 - "With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may count you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may fulfill every good purpose of yours and every act prompted by your faith.  We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ."

Matthew 6:9 - "This, then, is how you should pray: 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed by your name,"

John 14:13 - "And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father."

That our outreach to the lost will be effective:

I Timothy 2:3 - "This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth."

Ephesians 6:19,20 - "Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains.  Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should."

Colossians 4:3,4 - "And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains.  Pray that I may proclaim it clearly as I should."

That there will be laborers in the harvest field:

Matthew 9:37,38 - "Then he said to his disciples, 'The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.  Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field."

That Christians not be defeated by Satan:

Ephesians 6:18 - "And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.  With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints."

Luke 22:31,32 - "Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift you as wheat.  But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail.  And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers."

That we pray for our enemies:

Matthew 5:44,45 - "But I tell you: love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you that you may be sons of your Father in heaven.  He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous."

That we receive God's wisdom:

James 1:5 - "If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him."

Psalm 119:33,34 - "Teach me, O Lord, to follow your decrees; then I will keep them to the end.  Give me understanding and I will keep your law and obey it with all my heart."

That we do not sin:

Psalm 119:133 - "Direct my footsteps according to your word; let no sin rule over me."

Matthew 26:41 - "Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.  The spirit is willing, but the body is weak."

That when we do not know God's will, the Holy  Spirit helps us:

Romans 8:26,27 - "In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness.  We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.  And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will."

That there will be times when we do not know God's will:

II Corinthians 12:8-10 - "Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me.  But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.  Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.  That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties.  For when I am weak, then I am strong."


I Samuel 12:23 - "as for me, far be it from that I should sin against the Lord by failing to pray for you…."

Galatians 6:2 - "Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ."

James 4:2 - "You want something but don't get it.  You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want.  You quarrel and fight.  You do not have because you do not ask God."


Matthew 26:41 - "Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.  The spirit is willing, but the body is weak."

Luke 18:1 - "Then Jesus told them a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up."

Ephesians 6:18 -"And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.  With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints."

I Thessalonians 5:17 - "pray continually"


Exodus 15:23-25 - "When they came to Marah, they could not drink its water because it was bitter. (That is why the place is called Marah.)  So the people grumbled against Moses, saying, 'What are we to drink?'  Then Moses cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a piece of wood.  He threw it into the water, and the water became sweet…."

Judges 16:28-30 -  "Then Samson prayed to the Lord, 'O Sovereign Lord, remember me.  O God, please strengthen me just once more, and let me with one blow get revenge on the Philistines for my two eyes.  Then Samson reached toward the two central pillars on which the temple stood.  Bracing himself against them, his right hand on the one and his left hand on the other.  Samson said, 'Let me die with the Philistines!'  Then he pushed with all his might, and down came the temple on the rulers and all the people in it.  Thus he killed many more when he died then when he lived."

Acts 12:5, 11-17 - "So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him….Then Peter came to himself and said, 'Now I know without a doubt that Lord sent his angel and rescued me from Herod's clutches and from everything else the Jewish people were anticipating.  When this had dawned on him, he went to the house of Mary the mother of John, also called Mark, where many people had gathered and were praying.  Peter knocked at the outer entrance, and a servant girl named Rhoda came to answer the door.  When she recognized Peter's voice, she was so overjoyed she ran back without opening it and exclaimed, 'Peter is at the door!'  'You're out of your mind,' they told her.  When she kept on insisting that it was so, they said, 'it must be his angel.'  But Peter kept on knocking, and when they opened the door and saw him, they were astonished.  Peter motioned with his hand for them to be quiet and described how the Lord had brought him out of prison…."
