RESISTING TEMPTATION

"When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it.  She also gave some to her husband." (Gen 3:6)

WHAT IS TEMPTATION?

1. Temptation is not sin (Heb 4:15).

2. Temptation is an enticement to do that which is sinful and evil.  It is an
enticement to choose sinful pleasure for the moment over obedient fellowship     with God.  "but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is     dragged away and enticed." (James 1:14)

3. The three primary ways we are tempted are the same way that Eve was     tempted before the Fall and Jesus was tempted by Satan in the wilderness:

4. Satan is "the tempter" (I Thess 3:5; Matt 4:3)

5. Who are some in the Bible who were tempted and failed in these three     primary
    ways that we are tempted:

6. Who are some in the Bible who were tempted and resisted successfully in     these three primary ways that we are tempted:

HOW CAN WE R.E.S.I.S.T TEMPTATION?

RUN FROM SOURCES OF TEMPTATION
Flee temptation ( I Cor 6:18, 10:14)
Cry for help to avoid temptation (Matt 6:13)

ELIMINATE VULNERABILITES IN ME
Eliminate overconfidence (I Cor 10:12)
Eliminate any desires outside of Christ (Rom 13:14)

SEE SIN'S EFFECTS (Prov 5:1-14; 7)
Death (James 1:13-15)

Scars (David after his sin with Bathsheba; Exod 20:5)
Vulnerability (Rom 6:19; I Tim 6:9)

I'M NOT ALONE
