Jesus asked the Twelve.  Simon Peter answered him, 'Lord, to whom shall we go?  You have the words of eternal life.  We believe and know that you are the Holy One of God.'  Then Jesus replied, 'Have I not chosen you, the Twelve?  Yet one of you is a devil!'

IMPARTATION

John 15:11-13 – "I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.  My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.  Greater love has no one that this that he lay down his life for his friends."

REPRODUCTION

SUPERVISION

Luke 9:54,55 – "When the disciples James and John saw this, they asked, 'Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them?'  But Jesus turned and rebuked them, and they went to another village."

Mark 8:17-24 – "Aware of their discussion, Jesus asked them: 'Why are you talking about having no bread?  Do you still not see or understand?  Are your hearts hardened?  Do you have eyes but fail to see, and ears but fail to hear?  And don't you remember?  When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many basketfuls of pieces did you pick up?"

John 15:16 – You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit---fruit that will last.  Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name."

Matthew 28:19,20 – "Therefore go and go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you…"

PAUL'S EXAMPLE

HIS LIFE PATTERN

Whole-hearted zeal

Colossians 1:28-2:3 – "we proclaim him admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ.  To this end I labor, struggling with his energy, which so powerfully works in me.  I want you to know how much I am struggling for you and for those at Laodicea, and for all who have not met me personally.  My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge."

Humility

Acts 20:19 – "I served the Lord with great humility and with tears, although I was severely tested by the plots of the Jews."

Courage and boldness

Acts 20:20,21,26,27 – "You know that I have not hesitated to preach anything that would be helpful to you but have taught you publicly and from house to house.  I have declared to both Jews and Greeks that they must turn to God in repentance and have faith in our Lord Jesus…..Therefore, I declare to you today that I am innocent of the blood of all men.  For I have not hesitated to proclaim to you the whole will of God."

Motherly love and care

I Thessalonians 2:7,8 – "but we were gentle among you, like a mother caring for her little children.  We loved you so much that we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well, because you had become so dear to us."

Fatherly love and care

Acts 20:28-31 – "Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit made you overseers.  Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood.  I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock.  Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them.  So be on your guard!  Remember that for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears."

I Thessalonians 2:10-12 – "You are our witnesses, and so is God, of how holy, righteous and blameless we were among you who believe.  For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children, encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory."

Sacrifice

Acts 20:33-35 – "I have not coveted anyone's silver or gold or clothing.  You yourselves know that these hands of mind have supplied my own needs and the needs of my companions.  In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard word we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: 'It is more blessed to give than receive."

HIS METHODS

Instruction (he imparted knowledge)

Acts 19:9,10 – "But some of them become obstinate; they refused to believe and publicly maligned the way.  So Paul left them.  He took the disciples with him and had discussions daily in the lecture hall of Tyrannus.  This went on for two years, so that all Jews and Greeks who lived in the province of Asia heard the word of the Lord."

I Timothy 4:11,13 – "Command and teach these things…..Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching."

II Timothy 2:24-26 – "And the Lord's servant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful.  Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, and they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will."

II Timothy 3:16-4:2 – "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that they man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.  In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge:  Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage---with great patience and careful instruction."

Rebuke and correction

II Timothy 3:16,17 – "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that they man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Titus 1:12,13 – "Even one of their own prophets has said, 'Cretans are always liars, evil brutes, lazy gluttons.'  This testimony is true.  Therefore, rebuke them sharply, so that they will be sound in faith"

I Thessalonians 5:14 – "And we urge you, brothers, warn those who are idle, encourage the timid, help the weak, be patient with everyone."

Encouragement and help

I Thessalonians 5:14 – "And we urge you, brothers, warn those who are idle, encourage the timid, help the weak, be patient with everyone."

Time with them

Acts 20:4,18,20 – "He was accompanied by Sopater son of Pyrrhus from Berea, Aristarchus and Secundus from Thessalonica, Gaius from Derbe, Timothy also, and Tychicus and Trophimus from the province of Asia….."when they arrived, he said to them: 'You know how I lived the whole time I was with you, for the first day I came into the province of Asia……You know that I have not hesitated to preach anything that would be helpful to you but have taught you publicly and from house to house."

HIS PATTERN AND METHOD SUMMED UP (Col 1:28,29; II Tim 2:2)

Colossians 1:28,29 - "we proclaim him admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ.  To this end I labor, struggling with his energy, which so powerfully works in me."

II Timothy 2:2 – "And the things you heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others."
