THE NEW MAN

II Corinthians 5:17 says, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come."

      We are new - the old has gone; the new has come!
            What is the old that has gone?
            What is the new that has come?

We have a new legal standing before God

      Justified = the divine pronouncement by God that we are, "not guilty!"
      before Him!

      We are no longer condemned (Rom 8:1).
      We are legally at peace with God (Rom 5:1).
      We are righteous before God (Rom 4:5; Isa 61:10).
      We are holy before God (Col 1:21,22) (God imputes Christ's righteousness
            to us - white robes!  Revelation 19:14)

We have a new relationship with God

      We are reconciled with God (Col 1:21-22).

We have a new position of great privilege with God:

      We are blessed in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing
            (Eph 1:3).
      We have been chosen to one day be blameless (Eph 1:4).
      We have been adopted as his sons (Eph 1:5).
      We have become aware of God's mystery (Eph 1:9-10).
      We are raised and seated with Christ in the heavenly realms (Eph 2:6).
      We have immediate access to God's throne (Heb 4:16).
      We are able to call God, "Papa" (Rom 8:15).
      We are co-heirs with Christ (Rom 8:15-17).

We are a completely new person:

Diagram 1

      Romans 6:1-14
            "Old self?" (6:6)  Who we were before the new birth.

            "Body of sin?" (6:6)  The body of the old self that was enslaved to sin.

            "New self?" (6:4)  It is created to be like God (Eph. 4:22-24;
                               Col 3:9,10).
                              We are able to live a new life (6:4).
                              We are no longer a slave to sin (6:6,7,14).
                              We are able to live with Jesus (6:8).
                              We are alive to God (6:11).

      Romans 8:1-13
            We are enabled by God's Spirit to obey God's law (8:4).
            We able to desire what God's Spirit desires (8:5).

We are a temple of the Holy Spirit ( Cor 6:19)

God's Law is now written in on our hearts (II Cor 3:3).  God has given us the             desire to obey Him.

We have God's transcendent power (II Cor 4:7).

We have all the power necessary to live a godly life (II Pet 1:3,4).

We are no longer sinners by nature (I Jn 3:1,2,9,10).

We are to live like the new people we now are (Romans 6:10-14;
             Phil 2;12,13;
Gal. 2:20; Col 1:27; Eph 2:10, 4:1,2; Col 3:9,10,12-14).
