1. It is not good news at all to learn that we have an enemy.  But, the Bible is clear; we have a supernatural, relentless and completely evil enemy.  Peter says this about him:  "Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour." (I Peter 5:8).  He is called the "father of lies" and "a murderer from the beginning" (John 8:44); "accuser of our brothers who accuses them before our God day and night" (Revelation 12:10); "the evil one" (Matthew 13:19, 38); "the tempter" (Matthew 4:3; I Thessalonians 3:5); "prince of this world" (John 12:31); "the prince of the power of the air" (Ephesians 2:2); and "devil" means "slanderer."  What do his names tell us about how our supernatural enemy attacks us?

2. He is accompanied by fallen angels in his war against us.  They are called "demons" (Matthew 12:24) and "fallen angels" (Revelation 12:7).  They propagate Satan's lies and false teaching (I Timothy 4:1-4); entice people into sexual immorality (Revelation 18;2,3); enslave people to fear (II Timothy 1:7) and much more.

3. But, we are not helpless against Satan and his demons.  "The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of this world.  On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds." (II Corinthians 10:4).  "Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.  Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes.  For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.  Therefore, put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand." (Ephesians 6:10-13).  What do these verses tell us about how we can be victorious against Satan and his demons?  What are our weapons that are divinely powerful?

II Corinthians 10:3,4 - "For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does.  The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of this world.  On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds."
