We must deny self-deception and take up our cross.

1. Years ago, as a sailor in San Diego, I came out of a movie theater into the bright sunlight of the day.  I was wearing my dark-blue wool uniform.  In the dark and inside of theater, I did not realize that I had been dropping pieces of popcorn all over myself and that they had been sticking to my uniform.  When I came out into the light, I saw that popcorn was all over my uniform, and that I looked horrible.  I immediately began to brush myself off.  When we became Christians we went from being in darkness to being in the light.  We used to do things that were wrong, but we did not see that we were doing much that was wrong.  Now in God's light, we see them as being wrong and sinful.  They now look horrible to us.  What did you not feel was wrong before you were a Christian, but now feel is wrong (share only what you feel comfortable sharing in this group)?

2. What problems are caused when we do not admit our sins?

3. Why do we find it so hard to admit that we are wrong?

4. At the Lord's Supper, we pause to think about any sin we have done that we need to confess to God, before we take the bread and the juice.  But, this is not the only time we are to confess our sins to God and to others.  We should seek to keep very short accounts.  In other words, we should admit our sins immediately after we do them.

I John 1:8 (extra credit) - If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.

I John 1:9 – "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."
