                                   LOVE NOT THE WORLD*
                                   F

1. In I John 2:15,16, John says:  "Do not love the world or anything in the world.  If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.  For everything in the world---the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has or does --- comes not from the Father but from the world."  What is the world that John is talking about here?  Is it the world of Genesis 1:1 that God created in the beginning or is the world of John 3:16 that God so loved?  What world is it?

2. What is the difference between enjoying what God has given to us and loving the world?  How do Paul's words in I Timothy 4:4,5 help you to answer this question:  "For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer."

3. What are some examples of the world that we are not to love?

4. If you are a Christian but still feel empty, what may be the cause of it?

5. Discuss why the love of God should completely replace our love for the world.  How does I John 2:17 and I John 5:4,5 help you to answer this question?  "The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever."  "for everything born of God overcomes the world.  This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.  Who is he that overcomes the world?  Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?"

I John 2:15-17 - "Do not love the world or anything in the world.  If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.  For everything in the world---the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has or does --- comes not from the Father but from the world.  The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever."
