                                  VITALITY IN THE CHURCH*

1. When most people hear the word, "church;" they think of a church building.  But when the Bible says the word, "church," it means we who are "called out" by God from the world.  What do you think of when you hear the word, "church"?  What do you believe is God's goal for His church?  What does God's gift to us of His light (opening our spiritual eyes), His love for us, and His life within us have to do with the church?

2. Listen to these words from God's book:  "For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom his whole family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen." (Ephesians 3:14-21)  "The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ." (1 Corinthians 12:12)  What do these verses tell you about God's goal for His church (His goal for all of us together)?

3. What do you believe God wants you to do so that He can fulfill His goal for the church through you?


"It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ." (Ephesians 4:11-13)
